The AI Industry is Funding A Massive AI Training Initiative for Teachers

The American Federation of Teachers (AFT), representing 1.8 million educators, has launched a new AI training hub in New York City with $23 million in funding from Microsoft, OpenAI, and Anthropic. As AI tools become increasingly integrated into education, the initiative aims to equip teachers with skills to effectively use AI for tasks such as lesson planning, creating quizzes, and communicating with parents. Microsoft is contributing $12.5 million over five years, while OpenAI is donating $10 million. The goal is to give educators more control over AI's role in classrooms amid concerns about the potential negative impact of AI on student learning and teacher autonomy.
